SAILING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

info@aticeo.com

Ships emit a staggering 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, contributing 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, as much as aviation. Moreover, in Europe air pollution from shipping is responsible for over 50,000 deaths a year.

Silverstream Technologies, a London-based company, has developed an air lubrication system that generates a uniform carpet of microbubbles that reduces frictional resistance between the hull and the water. By reducing the propulsion energy required to move ships, this technology unlocks a 5-10% net fuel and emission saving.

Following the same goal of enhancing global transportation and logistics' energy efficiency, Beyond the Sea has pioneered a kite traction solution. These kites, adaptable to all ship types, harness wind power alongside engines, resulting in an average emission reduction of 20%. They also provide additional safety for sailors, as they can be used as emergency propulsion.
